The Present Simple is used to express:

  • permanent states and permanent truths
  • repetitive actions, e.g. routines
  • instant actions


  • The sun rises in the east. (permanent)
  • I walk to work every day. (repetitive)
  • Oh NOW I understand what you mean. (instant)
